FFX Walkthrough

Zanarkand Ruins

You’ll finally arrive where the story truly begins. This is where the intro for the game starts and where you first actually see Tidus. Time to make your way through Zanarkand.

Follow your team forward and save if you wish. Go all the way down the long pathway (battling as you go). There’s a chest along the way that yields another Fortune Sphere (nice!). The bat’s here don’t have good evasion, which is a nice asset. Another chest further up on the left yields a Spiritual Targe for Rikku. When you get to the end you may recognize this place as the old entrance to the Stadium. Talk to the guy at the entrance and he will allow you passage into the old stadium.

Inside you will be show memories of previous Summoners and guardians who had made the passage through to obtain the Final Aeon. Auron will give you an explanation on why you can still see those memories. Make your way across the debris until you get just past the save sphere, where you’ll get to see a memory of Seymour and his mother. If you go down the east path from here you’ll find a chest with a Friend Sphere in it, very nice!

Keep going until you see Braska, Auron and Jecht run by you in a memory, then go north and to your left to grab a chest with a Lv. 3 Key Sphere in it. Now go up and view the memory. Keep pressing on once the memory is done. There is a chest on your left in the next corridor. Up at the top of the corridor you’ll see another memory of Braska and his team again.

Welcome to the Zanarkand Cloister of Trials.

At the bottom you’ll see a save point, save before you continue. In the next room you’ll learn that the Final Aeon is not there anymore. The man there will tell you that Yunalesca will show you the path.

When you go into the next room Yunalesca will tell you that you have to make one of your friends or loved ones the fayth for the Final Aeon, and you’ll get to watch another flashback where you see that Jecht selflessly volunteered to be the fayth. Continue into the next room to fight Lady Yunalesca.

YunalescaThe first form of Yunalesca is based on replies to what you do. Everytime you attack she will use darkness on you, and each time you use magic she will counter with silence. The best way to stop her from launching these two statuses on you is to use Reflect on yourself. Sometimes she will use an attack called ‘absorb’ on you, and a few other attacks, some of which have the ability to dispel Reflect, so make sure you always have it cast on you by attempting to cast it again and checking the statuses next to the characters name. If you have Overdrives I suggest you save them for Yunalesca’s other forms.

Yunalesca, form 2The second form of Lady Yunalesca is much, much more irritating. She now has an attack called Hell Biter, and it’s what makes her one of the most unanimously hated bosses. Hell Biter will cast zombie on all your party members, which will cause curative items to do damage, including your own. She will also use curing magic’s on you. With reflect on the curative magics will be reflected back at her and will heal her for a slight amount of damage. Don’t worry though, you can counter it. If you’ve saved your Overdrives anytime now would be a good time to use them. Also, make good use of the magic Holy. It deals 9999 damage to most enemies, including Yunalesca. Its downside is that it costs 85 MP to cast. Just use Elixers and Ethers to get her magic back up when you run out, but make sure you don’t have zombie cast on you!

Yunalesca, form 3The third form of Lady Yunalesca is even harder. She still uses Hell Biter, and now she had a new move called Mega-Death, which can instantly kill all members of your team. The bonus to it though is that it doesn’t affect zombied characters, so if you’ve neglected to get rid of that status effect you’re in the clear! Again, make full use of Holy to get her HP (Which is 60000) down more quickly.

Yunalesca will die, and tell you that with her goes the only hope Spira had. Tidus will then propose that the team still attempt to defeat Sin even without the Final Aeon. Afterwards go as far north as you can, go down the stairs, and you will appear to end up in the same area, and you are, except this time there is a chest to the north at the top of the stairs with the Sun Crest in it. Leave the temple, and on your way out you’ll talk with Auron, and he’ll tell you that he is also unsent.

When you get to the exit of the dome and take a look outside you’ll get to see that Sin was waiting for you. Tidus will then promise his father that he will find a way to rid Spira of Sin. Sin will then leave, ignoring the incoming Airship, and you’ll get to use the Airship from now on to travel around.

On the Airship Yuna will silently thank Cid for rescuing her and attempting to stop her from completing the pilgrimage because she knows that Cid had good intentions. Once you can move Tidus again go all the way to the other end of the Airship and find Yuna and Kimahri. Talk to them and Kimahri will suggest the next course of action, to find Mika and make him talk. Now go back down to the cabin and the rest of the team will propose another idea. Wakka, Rikku, and Lulu will all tell you about their idea to use the Hymn of the Fayth to make him more docile. After the presentation of their idea you can decide where you want to go in Spira by using the NavMap. Talk to Cid and point ‘n shoot.
