Secret Characters

Yuffie

At any time on the world map, as you are passing through forests, you have a chance of running into Yuffie. The first point in the game is when you’re in the Junon Area on disk one, but if you get Yuffie later on in the game her levels will still match your teams.

When you run into Yuffie in combat, defeat her (she’s not hard) and then you’ll end up talking to her afterwards.

The answers two her questions are as follows:

Yuffie:

"You spikey-headed jerk! One more time, let's go one more time!"

Not Interested

Yuffie:

"You're pretty scared of me, huh?"

........petrified

Yuffie:

"I'm really gonna leave! Really!"

Wait a second!

Yuffie:

"You want me to go with you?"

......That's right.

Yuffie:

"All right! I'll go with you!"

......Let's hurry on.

Side Quest: Gold Saucer Date

This information is for the Gold Saucer date side quest (click here for more information).

You can fail this as many times as you like, and you'll still get the points every time you meet Yuffie until you get her in your party.  The points will continue to increase until they reach 30 or more, at which point any further increases will be ignored.

"All right"               - No change -

    "Not interested"          (+2 Yuffie)

    "Petrified..."            (+2 Yuffie)

"You're gonna lose again" - No change -

"Go ahead"                - No change -

    "Wait a second!"          (+2 Yuffie)

    "That's right"            (+2 Yuffie)

"You kiddin'?"            - No change -

    "What's your name?"       - No change -

    "Let's hurry"             (+2 Yuffie)

Vincent

It becomes possible to acquire Vincent as soon as your party reaches Nibelheim for the first time (not when Cloud is discussing it in the past). Enter Shinra Mansion at the top of the screen. Inside, off to the left, is a note outlining where all the numbers to the safe on the second floor can be found.

The first number to the safe is hidden in this letter. When you’re given the option to select a dial number, select Dial 4. It’s hidden in invisible ink at the bottom of the selection screen. When you select it, it will tell you “(4) Right 97”.

The doorway to the left of the staircase has the second number in it. It’s behind the piano in the room to the left, and the number is “(2) Left 10”.

The third number is up the stairs and to the right. Walk up the hallway towards the top of the screen and examine the floor as you walk. You’ll find “(3) Right 59” part way down the hallway.

The last number is found by taking a left at the top of the staircase. Grab the Enemy Launcher out of the chest in the circular room and then examine the chest again to find “(1) Right 36” written on the back.

The combination to the vault in the room just above this one is:

Right 36 – Left 10 – Right 59 – Right 97

Lost Number

Lost Number is really tough. There are some steps you can take to make sure you can fight him when you reach this point though. One of them is to make sure that your Enemy Skill materia has Big Guard on it. To get this, you have to fight an enemy called a Beach Plug on the beach near Costa del Sol. You’ll have to use Manipulate on it and have it cast Big Guard on your team.

This spell makes the battle much easier, although I didn’t use any Enemy Skill Materia for this battle, so it can be done without it. Enter the battle will full limit breaks and use them as soon as you enter the battle. Poison works on this boss, so cast it early and let it slowly eat away at his health.

Hojo's final form.

HP: -
Reward: Cosmo Memory

My roster for this fight:

Hojo's final form.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Half way through the battle Lost Number will morph into either a purple or orange form. Orange is weak against physical attacks, and purple is weak against magic attacks.

I managed to do this fight without Big Guard, but it makes for a really tough fight, and you’ll find yourself reviving dead characters from time to time. Good luck!

Be sure to grab the Odin materia that drops, and take the key from the bottom of the safe. Take the key and go down the secret passageway that took you to Sephiroth last time.

Hojo's final form.

At this point in the hallway go north through the doorway and take a look inside the coffin. When Vincent asks “What do you know?” tell him about Sephiroth. When Vincent locks himself back up, talk to him again and ask him who he is. Leave the room after this last conversation and Vincent will offer his services to you as you leave.

Vincent is a fantastic character, but there’s a downside to him you should know about. His limit breaks cause him to change form into a beast. The beast usually has very powerful moves, but the trouble is you no longer have control of Vincent. Where this becomes a problem:

1) The beast transformation will be permanent until the battle is over.

2) If Vincent has your healing materia or revive materia you can no longer use it until the battle is over.

3) Some of his limit break transformations cause him to use elemental attacks, such as Fire from his first limit break transformation. Just make sure you don’t transform him if you’re fighting an enemy that is immune to said elemental attack, or worse yet, absorbs it. I transformed Vincent into his first form, Galian Beast, while fighting a dragon. I couldn’t bring the damn thing down and had to give up, and my opinion of the coolness of Vincent has been soured ever since. I don’t recommend him.
